100 Clients, 0 Stress – How TRAUSSNIG Spedition GmbH Reduced administrative effort to almost zero
🚧 Initial situation and challenges
“It takes a lot of administrative effort to manage our Fujitsu ThinClients with different
eLux versions,” recalls Horst Steinkellner,
Head of IT at TRAUSSNIG Spedition GmbH.
The IT department was faced with a variety of challenges:
- Different software versions without a central structure
- High effort required to restore defective ThinClients
- Small IT team that did not have the resources for complex installations, configurations, and updates
️ Implementation with openthinclient
It was decided to download openthinclient and initially test it virtually.
The first experiences were consistently positive:
• The installation worked quickly and easily
• Minor stumbling blocks, such as the NumLock preset during boot, could be resolved without difficulty
A large portion of the existing Fujitsu Futros devices could continue to be used. Only very old devices were replaced with refurbished hardware from a local vendor.
Technical Requirements
The thin clients automatically start an RDP session to the terminal server.
At most office workstations, two monitors are in use – in some cases also three or four.
The devices themselves are mounted invisibly on the backs of the monitors using VESA mounts – visual appearance should also be appropriate.
The setup is complemented by forklift terminals based on Android
as well as Zebra mobile devices.
Conclusion and Feedback
Once installed and set up, it simply runs. No constant attention, no complicated processes – exactly the way the team needed it. Overall, around 100 thin clients are operated across four locations.
Horst Steinkellner puts it succinctly:
