Free use

Yes, you can use the openthinclient installation as a free community version for private, business, test environments and educational institutions,
clubs etc. free of charge.
However, you should note that openthinclient does not provide any support via email, ticket system or telephone.

No. You can find out more in our docu docs.openthinclient.com search for your problem or submit your Questions but there is no guarantee of a helpful answer. If you want direct support from openthinclient, you must have at least the Business 50 or a service package from us in the Webshop acquire.

Right of use

The price is calculated per ThinClient and month. You can find a price overview here.
Please note that a quantity discount also applies for larger installations.

You can see the number of clients used on the dashboard within the openthinclient manager.
If you would like to create more than 24 ThinClients, please order the corresponding number of user authorizations in the Webshop and enter the delivery address and your server ID.
After the invoice has been created, the server automatically retrieves the usage authorization.

If you use 25 or more ThinClients, from version 2022.1 you will need a paid user authorization. openthinclient will then provide you with support in the event of a problem or malfunction with guaranteed response times.

If you want to create 55x ThinClients - as in the example - you must purchase at least 1x the Business 50 package
and additionally purchase 5x single thin client usage authorization.

If you exceed the usage authorization, a warning appears within the openthinclient manager and on the ThinClients
with the note that you must reorder the corresponding user authorization.
However, it is still possible to continue working temporarily.

Billing

You order in our Webshop the corresponding number of usage authorizations that you require;
enter your server ID when ordering.
You will receive an order confirmation and your server will automatically retrieve the updated user authorization.

If you have exceeded the number of usage authorizations, a warning message will appear - but it is still possible to continue working temporarily.

Billing always takes place for the next month with the currently stored total number of usage authorizations.
This means that usage authorizations that you add between two billing dates are only taken into account from the following billing date.

If you wish to be billed annually, you will be billed on a monthly basis.

Please inform us of the desired reduction via support ticket.

Use of own hardware

Yes, the only requirement is that the devices have an x86-compatible 64-bit CPU
(i.e. devices from Apple, Raspberry or Android do not work) have at least 2GB of main memory and support PXE boot.

Update older versions

Support for versions 2018.x ended in December 2019.
For support requests, it is necessary to upgrade to the latest version.

To update an older version to the current version, please follow the Instructions in our documentation.
You will also find instructions for updates from the respective older versions in the menu.

OS-on-a-Stick

The development of OS-on-a-Stick is currently on hold. The openthinclient development team is currently focusing on
due to the high demand for the management server.
The OS-on-a-Stick application will be integrated as a local boot application at a later date.
