🚧 Initial situation and challenges
„Managing our Fujitsu Thin Clients with different eLux versions is very resource-intensive in terms of administration,“ recalls Horst Steinkellner, IT Manager at TRAUSSNIG Spedition GmbH.
The IT department faced a variety of challenges:
Implementation with openthinclient
It was decided to download openthinclient and test it virtually at first.
The initial experiences were consistently positive:
The installation was quick and easy
Smaller hurdles, such as the NumLock pre-setting
During boot-up, could be easily resolved. A large proportion of existing Fujitsu Futros could continue to be used. Only very old devices were replaced with refurbished hardware from a local supplier.
Technical requirements
The thin clients automatically start an RDP session to the terminal server.
Most office workstations use two monitors, with some using three or four.
The devices themselves are mounted invisibly to the back of the monitors using a VESA mount – the aesthetics are important too.
The setup is complemented by Android-based forklift terminals
and Zebra mobile devices.
Conclusion and feedback
Once installed and configured, it just runs. No constant fuss, no complicated processes – exactly what the team needed. In total, around 100 thin clients are operated across four locations.
Horst Steinkellner gets straight to the point.
„We wanted zero admin effort – and with openthinclient, we're damn close.“
